Liberating the Sanctuary: Beyond Marginalization, Intersectionality, and Inclusion to Reach Liberation

Dr. Jimmy Hoke researches and teaches about queer and trans folks in and around the Bible. They are the author of Feminism, Queerness, Affect, and Romans: Under God, which engages intersectional interpretive strategies to reread Paul’s letter to the Romans. Dr. Hoke writes weekly commentaries for “Queering the Lectionary,” an online project they created to help preachers and congregational leaders bring queer perspectives into worship spaces. Jimmy teaches courses in New Testament at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities and works with children and families at a Presbyterian congregation in St. Paul, where they are developing an LGBTQ-centered Sunday School curriculum for elementary-age learners. They are also a candidate for ordination in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
